RIHousing customers who are first-time homebuyers are required to take a Homebuyer Education class prior to closing.
NOTE: for co-borrowers, only one borrower is required to take the Homebuyer Education class.
First-Time Homebuyer Classes
FREE ONLINE “LIVE” VIRTUAL CLASS
Hosted by RIHousing, this FREE class is online, interactive and taught “live” by our experienced Homeownership staff. This class is offered once a month.
ONLINE “ON-DEMAND” CLASSES
Need more flexibility to take a class?
eHomeAmerica’s on-demand class features the same basic principles as our “live” class. These on-demand classes are available 24/7, are self-paced and offered in English and Spanish. There is a one-time fee of $50.
FEDERAL HOUSING ADMINISTRATION 203(k) HOMEBUYER EDUCATION
Buyers who apply for our Renovation Mortgage/203(k) loan are required to complete this class, in addition to the general First-time Homebuyer Education class. Others are welcome to take the course, which covers important information if purchasing a home needing repairs. There is a one-time fee of $15
*Please note that the completion of RIHousing’s Homebuyer Education class may not satisfy the Homebuyer Education requirements for other lenders or agencies providing down payment and/or closing cost assistance.
*Certificates obtained through a RI-based, non-profit, HUD counseling approved organization are also accepted.

Then you’ll need to complete Landlord-Tenant education in addition to our regular Homebuyer Education class. Learn about leasing, repairs and everything else you need to know to become a successful landlord.

Offered by Arch MI, this free online course can be taken any time, from any location with internet access. Click on “Landlord Education Certificate course for Landlords of 2-4 unit Primary Residence properties” module. You must create an account with your email and password.
When prompted for “Branch code,” enter “Arch MI.”
